Meike W. Vernooij, MD PhD, is a neuroradiologist and an assistant professor in Radiology and Epidemiology at Erasmus MC University Medical Center in Rotterdam, the netherlands. She is principal investigator of Population Imaging of the Rotterdam Study and as such co-leading the Rotterdam Scan Study. In 2008, she was awarded the Lourens Penning Prize by the Dutch Society of Radiology for her research on MRI in age-related brain diseases and in 2009, she was awarded the Research Prize of Erasmus University for her PhD work; as well as an Alzheimer’s Association New Investigator Research Grant. In 2011, she was appointed research fellow of Erasmus MC to continue her research on MRI in aging and dementia. Dr. Vernooij has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications in the field of brain MRI in aging and is currently supervising 7 PhD students.
